The Marilyn dress has a v-neck gathered bustline with a fitted waist and gathered skirt.
It is sized XXS to XXL and is designed for a woman who is 5'4" tall and a bust size of B-C.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I think so. Sort of.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
For the most part they were. There were not many explanations to go along with the directions, so I wouldn't recommend it for someone just starting out.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Once I made all my adjustments, it was quite easy to put together. I disliked that it required so many adjustments for my body.
Amy Butler's Lark Souvenir in Persimmon. I love the fabric!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I had to do an FBA on the bodice which required searching for a decent tutorial. I had never done an FBA and most tutorials were written for bodices with darts, not with gathered bodices. The one I followed is at www.lazystitching.com. I also had to add six inches to the skirt (which is a lot!). I'm 5'9" and was not adding the band along the hem so I had to add for my height and to make up for the missing band.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will not sew this again. I don't like the style on me. I do not think it is very flattering. I feel a little like a big red elephant in it. I would recommend it to others (below a D cup!).
I have never made this many adjustments to a pattern before and was quite daunted by it. I'm proud of myself for making the changes but I just don't think the dress is very figure flattering on me. I'm seriously thinking about cutting the bodice off and turning it into a skirt....
