|Pattern Description: I originally saw this shirt made up on Pattern review and was intrigued. I had never heard of Lekala patterns. I really liked the collar and neckline and how the darts are gathered into it. The title of the top in Lekala is "Ruffled Top" - but I think that is a bad translation.|
Pattern Sizing: This is a downloadable pattern at the great price of $2.49. You can't beat that! In the checkout process, you provide height, bust, underbust and waist. The pattern is generated and I think it was available in a few hours. The sizing of the pattern was very, very good. I made a round back adjustment. I also made a FBA, and rotated the addition evenly into the gathers in the front.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I did make some changes and had to chuckle at my "creative process". Before I started, I couldn't decide whether to use a turquoise or a pink interlock knit yard sale find. I decided on turquoise, but when I laid it out, there was a big chunk cut out of the back. First creative choice - use the pink. Second choice was the length of the sleeves - mid arm or very short. I barely had enough pink fabric, so second creative choice - sleeveless! I cut 2 1/4 inch strips to french bias finish the sleeves. Creative choice - sew them under or leave them out. Finally a REAL creative choice and I left them out. Besides my changes, it looked like the photo.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
No - there was a paragraph of instructions, but they were unintelligible. They were badly interpreted from another language. so you needed to know what you were doing. I had trouble with the bottom of the cross over binding. I though it was one layer under the other but one side sews into the other side. There is a very confusing instruction: If the pattern has a double contour the seam allowances are included. I have no idea what that meant in relationship to the pattern. I just assumed no seam allowances.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I very much love the collar and V insert. This treatment just made the shirt lovely. Click Here
One other problem I had was getting the collar to fit the neck. I was very careful not to stretch the neck and used stay stitching. But I really struggled getting the collar in without puckers. I may make the center back 1/2" smaller next time.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I plan on sewing this again as a Fall/Winter garment. I really liked it,
Conclusion: Well designed garment, like the download, measurements were right, instructions impossible.
