The directions are easy to follow and the fit is easy to alter to fit a wide variety of plus-sized figures. I am 6'2" (or at least I was when I was younger) and very heavy and the 4X didn't need a whole lot of adaptation. The biggest change was for length. I have made this suit for a wide variety of sizes as I have a standing offer out at the gym where I exercise: if you are a size that can easily buy a cheap suit on sale, I'll teach out how to make your own suit - an easy and enjoyable Sunday afternoon. If you are a size that has difficulty finding a suit to fit, I'll make one for you. Consequently I've made this suit for many MANY odd sizes from very petite plus to very large plus.
I skipped the bra. Soft band bras are POINTLESS unless you like the feeling of a tee shirt bunched up around your armpits. If you line the entire suit (not just the front) with swimsuit quality lycra (same quality as outer suit), you will get plenty of support and a more comfortable suit. This is easy to do. You just cut out two suits, serge them together, put wrong sides together and serge around all edges. An added advantage: there are no seams touching your body.
Everyone says to buy "cotton swimsuit elastic" and it does indeed work just fine, but so does any other elastic. If you swim in a chlorine pool (and ALL public pools have at least some chlorine), the elastic will outlast the suit fabric.
Great variety of nylon-lycra available at www.spandexworld.com for a really good price. They do have 1 yard minimum cuts but you can use the extra to make stretchy book covers.
