|Pattern Description: |
Prom dress, skirt and top. I made the top, but in a non formal fabric. I was inspired by thequirkypeach's review of the top.
4-12. I made an 8 instead of the usual 10 since I was using a knit.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not so much, since I did a t-shirt re-do.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't use them.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the cut on sleeve silhouette for a top. It is extremely comfortable in the hot weather. I wanted to try it out on a t-shirt to see how it would go. I actually did this twice: on the first t-shirt, I followed the normal 8 sizing and on the second, I kept the side seams nearly intact and added a large 3" hem and extended the shoulder seams by about an inch. This was just to play around to see the difference.
I like to re-do t-shirts, and I have noticed that getting around the arm scythe seam is the tricky part. To avoid this, I decided to incorporate the seam into the cut on sleeve. This way you have more fabric to work with.
For the neckband, I like to use the bottom of the t-shirt. If you cut it off carefully, you will have a band that is symmetrical and is much easier to work with than trying to cut a stretchy band from the shirt.
T-shirt fabric that is cotton with a little spandex.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Just sewing a size down and I use a decorative hem to finish knit in lieu of serging.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I love this pattern for this simple top. Sadly, prom days are long over but the dress looks like a fun one.
I love having a basic top pattern to play with.
