|Pattern Description: |
Pattern includes options for pants or knee length shorts. Classic Chinos can also be easily altered for shorties or capris. The Classic Chinos feature a functioning zip fly or quick and easy faux fly, front slant pockets, optional welt pockets (you won't believe how easy these are!), flat front waistband with elastic in back and optional belt loops.
Babies/Kids 3 month-12 years
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
My printer was running out of ink, so the pictures in the instructions printed, but the written instructions didn't. There are so many pictures included in the instructions that I was able to construct these trousers based off the pictures alone without much difficulty.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the details of this pattern. The front pockets are real pockets and while I omitted the zipper in the fly (sewed it shut), it still has the look of a fly-front.
Suiting from my stash, probably mostly or all polyester.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
This pattern is set up to either add in or omit details very easily. I omitted the back pockets and belt loops since I was making a 6 month size. I made the back elastic just a little bit shorter than called for to cinch the waist a little more than it otherwise would have been (my kids have always needed things to be on the slim side, and my elastic seemed extra-stretchy.). I made up the front without a zipper in the fly, but the instructions do include the option to put in a zipper if desired.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This first pair was for a baby shower gift, and I could easily see myself making this up again for the same reason. I will probably also end up making it for one or both of my own boys. It has a nice classic look to it which lends itself to being made and re-made multiple times.
I'm really liking the Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop line, including this pattern. The sizing seems to be comparable to a lot of ready-to-wear as far as I can tell. The back for these trousers is cut generously in the 6-month size I made up, which should be good for diapers, while the overall look doesn't appear to be too short and wide (which has been a pet-peeve of mine from other baby pants I've tried to make up in the past).
