I made the vest view B for my handsome nephew for his high school prom: At the prom
Here is a photo of him in the vest
Back of vest on him.
Finished back of vest
Pattern Sizing: 34-36-38-40. I made the vest according to his chest measurement and it fit perfectly according to him.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I think so.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were good, but I would not say easy. The pattern is rated Average by Vogue which I think is about right.
The welt pocket was a little challenging and I would use a different method the next time.
Here is a photo of the finished welt pocket. It turned out just OK, good enough for the fast turnaround time I had for this project.
Also, the attachment of the shoulder seams for the outer fabrics (not the lining) was a little tricky and did not "fit" together as well as it should have, but that probably was due to my own measuring, folding down and sewing inaccuracy error for the seam allowance here.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It was perfect for the occasion and I just like how Vogue puts out timeless, well made items for men, and women as well, such as this one.
Fabric Used: Wool gabardine suiting from The Annex at Mill End store in Milwaukee, OR. and some lining material I had in my stash.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only thing I did differently was not do the covered buttons, both to save time constucting and for a less formal look that covered buttons give.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would absolutely sew this again. I would also highly recommend this pattern for it's (mostly) well written instructions and functionality of the garment and accessories included with the pattern.
Conclusion: I made this for my very fashion conscious nephew in about a week's time from afar, just in time for prom. I had to ship it overnight from Portland to Boston to make it! He loves it and says it fits perfectly!
I sent along the pattern with the finished vest, along with another Vogue Men's pattern in hopes that he can try to make more apparel for himself as he is learning to sew on my mother's old sewing machine! I am so proud of him!
