Pattern Description: A super cute bubble peplum dress pattern. Bodice is finished with bias binding. It's a FREE Pattern.
Pattern Sizing:18 month - 6 years. I used size 2 for my 2.5 year old daughter.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it did!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The pattern does not come with any instructions but there are step by step instructions here. Which I did follow and I had no problems. I did mess up a little bit sewing the skirt piece to the lining but that's what happens when you decide to sew with flu!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I can't believe this pattern is free. It's so darn cute and very well drafted. Just 5 pages to print and assemble. The skirt is a rectangle which can but cut directly from fabric. The only thing I did not like was the fact that bodice was not lined. Normally I avoid lining but for kids clothes especially with zippers in the back, I like that extra layer to prevent scratchiness of any kind. The construction also goes faster with a lined bodice. If I make this again ( and I am sure I will ) I will line the bodice.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I love that the designer has included the finished measurements. Dia is on the petite side so I always have to measure. The only change I made was to sew the side seams 5/8" instead of the recommended 1/4" which brought in the bodice a little bit. I made the bodice first and tried it on her before proceeding with the skirt. Since I had enough fabric, I used the same fabric for lining as well.
I just took some pictures and I noticed that the bubble is too low on her. So for my next version I will take off about 2" from the bodice and attach the peplum higher. What do you think?
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I don't know how long the peplum style will last but I am planning to make atleast one other version of this pattern with a contrasting bodice. I think that'll be super cute.
Conclusion: If you have a little one to sew for, this pattern should be on your must-sew list. It's relatively easy to sew and is super cute.
