|Pattern Description: Slightly flared, mid-knee or evening length dress has close-fitting, lined sleeveless bodice, neck band, raised waist seam, front and back pleats, side seam pockets and back zipper.|
I made view B in a size 14 (but was much too big, would go down to 12 or 10 for future Vogue patterns).
Pattern Sizing: 6-20
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes pretty much.
Were the instructions easy to follow? This was the first pattern I had ever worked with, so I got a little confused in parts. But I think if I went back now (with more experience under my belt), it would go more smoothly.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the neckband; it seemed like a lot of cutting but made it a very different style than anything I have or have seen.
Fabric Used: cotton sateen, Dear Stella ikat; silk for the lining (not a great choice for a beginner but i made it work)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: none on purpose, but I think I made the neckband differently than the directions instructed (just because I got confused, ha). and I cut a size too big (again, first pattern experience so didn't know sizes very well), so I just made a little belt out of scrap fabric so the waist was more fitted w/o altering after the fact.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? i would recommend to others. would i sew again - maybe. i'm not opposed to it, but i'm not sure I need two of the same dress of this style.
Conclusion: This was the first pattern I started with (not the first I finished, because I did a top in b/w) so it was a learning experience. I felt like it was a lot of cutting and kind of intense, but I think if I were to make it now I would feel differently. Either way, a great finished product that got lots of compliments when I wore it to my cousin's wedding.
