Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes the instructions were easy to follow. Except for where the collar crossed over to form the keyhole opening. I did have to read through the instructions a few times before the penny finally dropped. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I didn't really dislike anything about the pattern but I did need to change a few things just so it suited my shape. Fabric Used:
Black wool crepe and Sunsilky black lining Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The neckline on this dress was quite wide and low which looked nice on the model on the cover of the pattern but I knew that it would be too wide for me. I really dislike necklines that don't stay in place and I had a feeling that this would be one of those necklines that wouldn't sit properly on me. I narrowed the neckline on the front which also lifted the front neckline and I raised the back neckline so it sat a little higher. By making these two adjustments to the front and back neckline I did need to remove a little from the length of the two collar pieces where they finished at the center back seam. These weren't really difficult adjustments to make if you are an experienced seamstress but may be a beginner would struggle to make these adjustments.
I did have one major issue while sewing this dress. I lost the instructions just at the point where I needed to insert the netting for the keyhole opening. Do you think I could work out for the life of me how to do this without the instructions. This pattern cost me $27 and I didn't want to buy another pattern just for the instructions so I did something terrible. I sewed a big ugly button over the keyhole gap! You can read about the whole horrible saga on my blog if you feel inclined :-/ Click Here Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I probably wouldn't sew it again. Not because I don't like the dress. The problem I did have was entirely of my own doing but I don't have a need for more of these type of dresses in my wardrobe. Conclusion:
This is quite a flattering dress (with adjustments) even for a plus size figure. It is a very classic elegant dress which will not date.
