Pattern Description: Misses Dress with back opening
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so. Mint Green
Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes, except for the stupid one pocket!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? My daughter wanted a dress for her college graduation. I sent her photos of three and this is the one she selected. I loved the back detail and thought it would be pretty on her.
Fabric Used: I selected a mint green eyelet I found online at Fabric.com. My daughter's only requirements were that the style was similar to a dress I made for her to wear to her sister's bridal shower and that it be mint green. Apparently that was the popular spring color because at least 4 other girls wore this same color to the graduation. The pattern fabric was lace, but lace would not have been appropriate for an early morning college graduation.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:I did not include the pocket. I actually thought it was way too much effort for the benefit. There was only a pocket on one side because the zipper was placed in the other side.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I would make this again for her if she wanted it. But it's pretty unique, so I'm not sure she would want another one.
Conclusion: I made this dress for my daughter while she was away at school. I have had to make 3-4 things for her while she was away. So I didn't have the benefit of any fittings. This one turned out perfect. The only thing I didn't do was hem it. I felt pretty certain that it wouldn't need much hemming. And I was right. She is my favorite muse right now because it's so much fun sewing for her. With me, there are ALWAYS alterations or changes to be made, but she has a near perfect body as far as proportions go and I now know she has hips and can adjust for those with just an additional 1/4 inche here or there.
I got to use a new tip I read on a blog. If you can't find a matching zipper (I assume it needs to be an invisible zipper, but I guess it would work with a regular zipper) purchase a white zipper and take your fabric and buy nail polish that is a perfect match! I did and it was fanatasic to see the zipper blend so well. I know most people wouldn't notice or care, but for us sewists, it's the little things that keep our garments looking better than RTW!
