|Pattern Description: |
This is the bra that is included in the book Bare Essentials: Bras. It's a full coverage full band bra
There is a method of determining your size described in the book which I wasn't familiar with, and using the books method I came out to a 32E. I normally wear a 34DD in RTW, but I made the size according to the book, since the pattern was drafted according to that system.
There's a really large range of sizes included in the book, and there are more available in her store online
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Ya, pretty much, except mine is a tester bra, so it's a little rough around the edges.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I've made a few Kwik Sew bra's before, and I'd say that the instructions are very clear, and as good as Kwik Sew's
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It's the first bra pattern I've made that fit pretty well, unchanged and I LOVE that the book includes detailed instructions about how to change the design of the bra once you have it fitting nicely.
Incidentally, I've also made up KS 2489 which looks very similar from the line drawing, but Bare Essentials bra has a much nicer rounder shape.
A mystery cotton-mix knit with very very little stretch.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None this time, but I will narrow the bridge on the 'real' thing. At the moment it's not going all the way back to my breastbone
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes yes yes yes. After trying 3 different bra patterns before and being disappointed. Then trying to clone a RTW bra and having that not work out as well as I'd want, I'm so happy to finally have a good base pattern to work from.
If you want to make bra's I would highly recommend this book and pattern.
I've got more info (and a bra elastic giveaway) on my blog
