Pattern Description: Short circle skirt with elastic waist.
Pattern Sizing: 36 inch
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? This one is self drafted but most people have seen a circle skirt and it looks like one
Were the instructions easy to follow? It is really easy to make even if you don't do math well.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love this pattern because it can be quick. I call it one of my 'emergency' patterns because I can make it up in 2 hours or less.
Fabric Used: This was a mystery fabric. I liked the print but decided not to buy it because there was no information on the bolt. My sister was with me and she bought it for me behind my back as a challenge. Sisters are so wonderful.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: This is my formula: Measure the biggest part of your body below your waist and add 2 inches = H. (Mine is at hip.) Take that measurement and divide it by 6.28=R. Measure down from your waist to how long you want the skirt add an inch=L. Take this measurement and add the one that =R. (L+R) This is half the width the fabric should be. Cut a square of fabric with sides twice as long as L+R. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and then in half width wise. Measure down from the folded point (center of the square if it was open) your R distance and make an arch across from fold to fold. This is going to be your waist opening. Make sure it goes over your hips. Decide if you want a handkerchief hem or a circle hem. If a circle hem, measure down from the arch L and make another arch. (It will look like a quarter of a pie with a bite out of the point.) Cut a strip of fabric the length of H and 4 inches wide. Sew the ends together and press it lengthwise in half for your waist band. Insert your elastic and sew the waist band on right sides together. Finish seam. I have seen this done in a broomstick style with muslin and it was just pinked on the hem. It looked beautiful.
Wordpress has instructions for drafting a circle skirt and it is worth it to see the handkerchief dress they show it on. I love it! Click on the link and scroll down to handkerchief skirt. handkerchief skirt
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes. This skirt looks good on most people. The wider you are the longer and drapier you'll want to make it.
Conclusion: My fabric was extremely ravelly. I'm not sure how long it will hold up so I will have to be careful and enjoy it to the full. Ps. It matches my swimsuit. circle skirt
