The Vivienne is a classy, sophisticated skirt. Peeking from under the front folds are 3 ruffles. The back of the skirt is elastic, allowing for growing room. The flat front and arched row of buttons make for a very polished look. Whether you make this skirt dressy or for play, you'll be as much in love as we are.
Sizes 2T - 10 I made a size 5 for a girl who wears size 6 in RTW and it was just a tiny bit big on her.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were written clearly and easy to understand.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the look of the skirt and originally chose it because Liberty Jane offers a sewing pattern with a very similar look for dolls. It was perfect for a matching girl and doll outfit.
I did not like the amount of bulk in the waistband. There are also no pattern marking for attaching the ruffles. Instead there are instructions on approximately where to place them. I've noticed this happening with a lot of independent pattern companies.
Quilting cotton for the over skirt and a cut up bed sheet for the underskirt.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I didn't make any this time but if I sew it again I will change the waistband quite a bit. I would also add a 4th row of ruffles because the top of the last ruffle band shows just a little bit.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'm not sure if I will sew it again, and I would recommend it to anyone who is comfortable making some small modifications to the pattern.
My first attempt at this pattern resulted in a beautiful play skirt, but some changes will have to be made if I want to make a skirt that she can wear to school.
