Misses’ dress and jumpsuits designed for day or evening.
I made size 8 at the bust and graded out to 14 for the skirt, and then made a few minor alterations at the side seams once I started sewing.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, but this isn't a pattern for a beginner.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I really like the way the bodice is lined and the design of a full skirt without gathers or pleats at the waist.
lightweight linen and cotton batiste for the lining
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Bodice: Instead of pleats under the bust, I used gathers. I have another dress with pleats, and I'm not really crazy about that look. The gathers work just as well.
Skirt: I eliminated the center front and center back seams and cut them on the fold. I don't know exactly how this has affected the way the skirt falls because of the change in the straight of grain, but I think it will work out fine.
Fitting: Part of the reason I chose to sew this pattern is because it has so many pattern pieces to make up the bodice, and I thought that all those seams would give me plenty of opportunities to get a good fit. I was right! I cut each piece to my measurements and even took in a bit at the side seams once I started sewing. If I had just cut all the pieces in one size, there is no way this dress would have fit me.
Lining: I added a lining to the skirt because somehow the pattern lines the bodice beautifully, but then just ignores the skirt. My lightweight linen needed both opacity and stability.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Well, I would love to, but I probably will not. I don't really need too many more summer maxi dresses. I will probably use the skirt portion in a shortened length for the bottom of a dress though. I think it's comfortable and fits well.
I do recommend the pattern.
This pattern worked really well for me! I love it!
