|Pattern Description: |
A button-through dress, pleated skirt, peter pan collar version, puff sleeves big or small, skirt frill optional, waist ties, shorts pattern included
Age 3-8. I made age 6 for a 4 1/2 year old
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The instructions for the smaller puff sleeves were very simple although looked complicated. My red binding on the sleeves looked cute although only I knew it was there! I chose this button-through dress because of a problem with my zipper foot...but I am very pleased with it as it increases independent dressing. I liked the pleats which were super easy to do.
A viyella type of soft cotton, dark blue with a cute strawberry print. I splurged on the red buttons which are Italian!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I used a red light weight poly for the under collar, which made a nice contrast. Later I thought red piping around the collar would also look great. I made the smaller puff sleeves, using contrast bias binding for the elastic insert, and left off the frill round the bottom of the skirt. Instead of the waist ties, I made a belt out of grosgrain ribbon and sewed a crochet flower onto it - which looked great but the waist of the dress was a bit high for that kind of belt.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I will make again in a lightweight cotton for summer with the matching shorts which I think are a great idea.
It looked fantastic - much better than I had anticipated for a $3 pattern (on special) and inexpensive fabric. I would not hesitate to make it again in a more expensive fabric - I'm thinking a Liberty print would look great.
