|Pattern Description: |
Unlined loose fitting, below waist, pullover top has cowl-neck. Has sleeve variations, two lengths, optional belt.
14, 16, 18. I cut a 14.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, except for attaching the facings to the shoulders. I have sewn other patterns with twisty-turny parts and always figured it out, but this time I gave up and did it my own way. I blame it on the triple digit heat we have here - LOL.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the beautiful drape of the cowl neck and that the armscye size is just right. I can see how the body of this top might be boxy on slimmer torsos, but it turned out fine for me. I dislike the directions for the facing attachment.
I am calling the fabric an ITY Jersey knit, but I'm really not sure. It's very drapey, stretchy and kind of slippery fabric. I got it at JoAnn's and from now on I am writing down the description from the bolt before I leave!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added two inches to the bottom and made a small hem. Since I got frustrated with the twisty-turny facing, I merely finished the front the same as the back and sewed the shoulders together like any other top. My serger bogged down on all those layers, though, so I trimmed the seams very small and used an overcast stitch to make it look neat. The side seams are serged, as well as the raw edges of the facings. Instead of understitching I pressed and topstitched. I broke a lot of rules here, but it ended up looking very nice.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I would like to make a black one with smooth short sleeves or 3/4 sleeves. I wouldn't like the flutter sleeves on me because I have broad enough shoulders already. There is a long sleeve version in the pattern that can be cut off any length.
Well, the way I did it was fast and easy. Next time I will be determined to do the twisty-turny thing right. Still, it looks fine and fits, so I'm happy.
