Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, it did!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, though this is the first time I've sewn with an independent pattern, so I had to get used to the flow of the instructions compared to what I was used to with the big pattern publishers.
There were times the minimal instructions were both empowering and fear-inducing. (What?! You're not going to tell me how long to cute my elastic before inserting it in the casing? Oh, okay, that gives me a lot of flexibility to size it comfortably.)
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I wouldn't have found this pattern if I hadn't signed up for a class teaching on the pattern at my local fabric store. I'm delighted that I took the class and with my finished product.
I especially like the design of the skirt, with its smooth waist band in the front and elastic in the back. It's both flattering and easy on fitting. I've been having a run of bad luck on fitting myself lately, so was glad to know I had an almost fool-proof, can't-go-wrong style.
A gorgeous Kaffe Fassett rayon print, in his Millefiore design. I believe I have the pastel colorway. This fabric is special because I bought it online some 5 or more years ago when I didn't have a ton of extra money lying around. My heart broke a little when it arrived because the colors appeared differently than I thought they would. So, I put the fabric away until I found the right project. I found the right project!
The rayon works beautifully in my flouncey skirt. I just wish I'd paid more attention to where I laid out the pattern pieces so that the design repeats weren't jumbled the way they look to my eye in my finished skirt.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made no alterations. Because my waist and hip measurements put me in two different sizes, I chose the smaller of the sizes to fit my hips. I'm really glad I did; the elastic waistband gave me all the ease I needed in the waist.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Most definitely. I'd like to try the gored version next.
A fun first foray into sewing with an independent pattern. And for me, a good use for some fabric that I needed to fall back in love with -- and I did.
