|Pattern Description: |
Tops with various ruffles/necklines and with our without sleeves.
6-14. I made a 10.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Not really, this pattern gets some bad reviews because the ruffle instructions are not sufficient. However, I thought everyone's tops were still super cute despite their problems, so I determined to give it a try anyway. I made view F and they were right in that the neckline instructions are tricky and could have been much better illustrated, but I figured it out with minimal un-sewing. I can definitely see how beginners would be very frustrated though!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the neckline options here and I love the fit also. I'm glad I made a quick muslin, because I ended up with a size smaller than I usually make. Also, I know what they're trying to do with the cup size options, but bra size is soooo relative to many other factors of a person's body, that I don't think it's a reliable system for patterns at all. I made a 10 B cup, but I wear a 34 D in bras. So, make a muslin of the basic shell, is the point I'm trying to make
Other than the complexity of the neckline, I rated this pattern difficult because making a narrow hem on that ruffle is a bear. If you have a serger, use your rolled hem because it is challenging to get a nice looking narrow hem on such a curved piece. I didn't have the right color serger thread for this one, but next time I will make sure I do. It looks fine, but it's painstaking. Also note that the ruffle shows both sides of your fabric, so a two-sided fabric is best.
I used a thrifted vintage silk blend.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I didn't change a thing, except that when it was done, the ruffle on my one shoulder sorta stuck straight up. I just pleated it back and top stitched it down on the back of my shoulder, which fixed the problem just fine.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will make this again, I really do like the fit, it's comfortable and versatile and modest. I will make some of the other necklines and this could easily become a tnt pattern for me, although it's not a super quick one to just "whip up" in one sitting. And I do recommend it to others, just be aware of the trickiness of certain parts. Maybe start with the non-ruffled views to get the gist of the neckline.
Great top and flattering for many figures
