|Pattern Description: Close fitting and flared dresses with princess seams and front button closure. Views A and B have self lined bra and godets. Views C and D are supposed to be lined. I made some changes. |
Pattern Sizing:4-20 My envelope had sizes 12-20. I cut a 14 bust and tapered to a 16 in the hip.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?I didn't really need them. The dress is fairly easy to put together.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I love the button front closure. I think it's so cute.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:WELL! I don't think I ever had so many fitting issues with a dress. I had to cut the side front piece 4 times, and it's still not quite right.
Anyway, I made my version of view C.
The dress is supposed to lined, but I didn't want a lining. So, I eliminated it. Instead I cut facings that came down to just under the bust. Because I eliminated the lining, I needed a placket. What I ended up doing was extending the front 'placket' on both sides by 1.25 inches. After I sewed on the facings, I opened it out and folded in the 'placket' by 025 inch, then folded that in again by 1 inch, and now 1 had a packet. I only interfaced that main part, I didn't not interface the facing.
The side front panel is where I had ALL my problems with this dress. It flares out so bad, you can carry around drinks in your side boobs! I'm not kidding! I ended up trimming the side seam down to a 12. When that didn't help nearly enough, I made a small bust adjustment per Fast Fit For Everyone. Still not enough. I had to fold out a full inch dart in the tissue. I still have side boob flare a little bit, but at least I can't stick my drink in there (maybe a small snack though...) I'm a small B cup, I don't know who would be filling out that side area the way it's drafted because there was A LOT of extra room in there.
Then I had to change the straps. Long story short, we were dog sitting, and the dog peed on my strap pattern piece. Grr, So, I had to just wing it.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I might sew it again now that I almost have all the fitting issues worked out. Although, I picked up a few Nue Modes that are close to the same style, so i might try one of those first. The dress was fast and easy to put together once you work out the issues with the side front piece. I highly recommend a muslin if you make this pattern though.
