|Pattern Description: Misses’ pullover tops have round necklines with or without collar, back button and loop closure and can be made sleeveless or with long, short or flutter sleeves. A, C elastic waist forming a blouson; E, F have an easy swing shape. This review is for a hybrid of A and B (sleeves from B with elastic waistline from A). |
Pattern Sizing: 12-14-16-18-20. I used a 20 at the neck/shoulders, gradually extending to what is probably the equivalent of a 24 at the hips.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Not really, as I made some additions and didn't use lace, but the spirit is there.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes! I'm really liking Simplicity's instructions these days. They seem to be more detailed on how to finish darts nicely, use bias tape, etc. than in times past.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the elastic waistline, as being a plus size, it's hard to fit a peplum top without elastic. I think the waistline is flattering and comfortable. I also like the variations this pattern offered, and I really like the side darts, as they help create a flattering shape.
Fabric Used: Cotton jersey from Fabric Mart. I really loved the Oriental print of this fabric, and it's also a great fabric! Jersey was not on the recommended fabrics list for the pattern, but this is a very stable knit and thus worked well for this pattern.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added a black ribbon down the front (similar to View E and to some RTW plus-size tops I'd seen). I think this is a flattering detail, although it did cause some annoyance when sewing the waistline casing, as I had to switch thread a couple times.
I also added black lace around the neckline and black sparkly buttons to the front. Also, I did not need the back opening to be functional, and the loop kept coming off the button as I'd made it too large, so I ended up sewing it down. I can still take the top on and off with no trouble.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I already have--twice! I'd definitely recommend this pattern. It's a quick make (I made this top in a morning) and offers a lot of opportunity for creativity.
Conclusion: A great and easy pattern that offers a lot of options!
