|Pattern Description: Misses’ corset-style top with peplum or cropped. Gathered knee length skirt & wide-legged pants have side zipper. Fitted jacket has princess seams, 3/4 sleeves & Peter Pan collar. Threads Magazine Collection.|
Pattern Sizing: I chose between 14 and 16 from shoulder, bust, and waist.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are wonderful! Much better than traditional Big 4 instructions because they are written by someone from Threads magazine.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the close-fitting style of this top but the fact that it is still relatively modest. I was able to place the straps so that I can wear a regular bra underneath. I love that the instructions create a clean and profession machine finish with no handstitching.
Fabric Used: Navy cotton pique for body and pink poly satin lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I graded out one size up in the bust. I also eased a shorter piece of twill tape along the seam line on both sides of the center front of the top of the shirt to help it hug my body better and prevent gaping.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely! I am already dreaming up my next version as a knee length dress.
Conclusion: This is a well-drafted pattern with excellent instructions that yields a stylish and perfectly fitting top. Unlike most Big 4 patterns, this top does not include excessive ease, so one can chose a size based on the actual measurement chart and be relatively confident of a good fit out of the gate. The construction techniques given are also of a higher quality than what is typically presented in most commercial patterns. Although I have not tried the other pieces in this multi-piece pattern, I highly recommend purchasing this pattern if only for the top alone.
