This is a stripe dress I made for my daughters.
Construction was basically simple as the fabric is stretchy so I just used the girls chest measurement plus 1" (one inch) ease for the top part. Also used a tape rule to measure where I want the strap to sit and added seam allowance. The button you see is basically decorative and not functional, it helps me to differentiate the front from the back.
For the skirt I looked everywhere to find out how to turn my strip to chevron and this tutorial from Sugar Baby Boutique http://sugarbabyboutique.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/how-to-make-chevron-maxi-skirt.html
which was very explanatory.
My skirt pattern was in a "A" shape form, just as shown in the picture. I only used the one piece pattern to cut four pieces for the skirt, two fronts and two back pieces. Total waist measurement used was about two times girls waist measurement. e.g girls waist 20" used 40" total for the waist
At the two sides I made small pleats to give the skirt a fuller look.
