Semi-fitted straight skirt with button tabs and back vent (view B).
I cut out the size 10 but it ended up too big and I had to take it in at the sides. The measurements on the envelope seemed to be smaller than the actual size. I will try sewing a size 8 next time.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, it sure did! This is the first skirt I have ever made and it turned out surprisingly well.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very. The instructions were very clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the cut of the skirt and the back vent. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the sizing chart didn't reflect the actual size of the garment.
Stretch cotton/linen blend. I would recommend using a stretch woven fabric if you prefer a more fitted skirt.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The pattern ran one size too large (for me, anyway) and I had to take in 1 cm on each of the the side seams.
I should probably note that I left the facing as size 10 and folded under the excess next to the zip. I think I would have had a hard time easing the skirt to match the facing with a size 8 facing.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This is a great little pattern and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who, like me, is new to sewing clothes for adults. I would like to try out some of the other variations, especially the one with the back pleats.
I didn't make a lining this time as this is a skirt for the very hot and sticky Japanese summer. It would be fairly simple to attach a lining to the bottom of the facing.
This is a lovely, well cut pattern and - apart from some minor sizing issues - I am very happy with the pattern and the finished result. For a more detailed look at the process and more photos, please see my blog, Crafty Mummy Japan.
