|Pattern Description: |
Misses' semi-fitted A-line sundress, has elasticized front neckline with strap variations, is unlined, back zippered with front and back darts, optional contrast yokes and hem bands.
I made dress A, with contrasting yokes.
I used size 10 and 12.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, it looks like the drawing except that the hem bands have been omitted, the shoulder straps have a contrast flange and the front neck has a self-fabric braid trim.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, they were clear, but they did not mention that a bow made with a 1/4" wide purchased ribbon had to be tacked over the elasticized front neck.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the elasticized front neckline and how the armhole and the upper edges were finished.
Interfacing was not required and the dress was so easy and simple to make.
Cotton; Poplin Cotton/Polyester (contrast fabric).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I sewed the dress in size 12 with the yokes and side seams above the hips being 10.
The straps were cut on the grainline.
I raised the front and back neck 1" by adding 5/8" to the upper edge of the yokes and by stitching in a 3/8" seam the lower edge of the yokes to the upper edge of the dress.
A 3/8" wide elastic was inserted through the front neck casing instead of the 1/4" called for.
The armholes were finished with a self bias tape and the straps have a contrast flange.
The front neck has a self-fabric braid trim, instead of a bow, tacked over the elastic casing.
The dress was shortened by 1 3/4" and widened by 3" at hemline.
Instead of adding hem bands to the lower edge, a 3/8" wide contrast bias tape was stitched to the dress 1 3/4" above hemline.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
If I sew this view again, I will keep this time the hem bands. I might use this pattern again since I find the version with sleeves and elasticized straps very interesting (Dress D).
Because there are five variations to choose from and because the dress was easy to make, I would recommend this pattern to others.
Very nice and funny project.
