Pattern Description: This is popular pattern for scoop neck, racerback maxi dresses. Also work at tank tops and this is a tank, wearable muslin version for the maxi.
Pattern Sizing: 2-18. I made 18.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The neckline is very RTW, a nice racerback. Fits well. This is a fast and easy pattern.
Fabric Used: Rayon/lcra knit "Riviera" from Sawyer Brook. Low yardage, only 1 for tank. Very inexpensive for this ($8). Easy to sew.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
For the neck/armhole bands, I just serged on the the doubled binding right at its edge. For this approach, the binding is just a bit too narrow--I think the measurement is 2 inches and I would widen to 2.5 inch in the future to give me more wiggle room. I then topstitched down the seam allowance of the band from the right side with a zigzag stitch, using a Teflon presser foot (this helps avoid stretching). The shoulders are too narrow to hide bra straps--I might double the width of this (or buy better looking bras...)
I did also shorten the arm holes by increasing the shoulder seam width by about 1/2 inch. The scoop neckline is still plenty low.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, am planning on the full maxi when my fabric arrives. Maxis take a significant amount of fabric--about 3 yards--and as a cost-saving measure I've learned to muslin the pattern as a shorter version to test the fit. Tanks are perfect for this. Conclusion: A great pattern for tanks/maxis. Nice neckline, fit.
