|This is a Vogue Options pattern for knit pullover tops with neck bands and seam details. I previously made view D. This time I made view A, the shorter version, with a bias, loose-fitting front that extends to the upper back and a back that extends to the upper front. It has no shoulder or side seams and has a stitched hem.|
Recommended fabrics are moderate stretch knits such as lightweight double knit, silk jersey and lightweight wool jersey. I made mine of a medium weight cotton-lycra, which worked very well.
I made my usual size 10 with no alterations.
This is a fun pattern to make. There are only three pattern pieces, the front with the extension to the back, the back with the extension to the back and the neck band. You start by folding the extension over on to the front to make the right sleeve and then you sew the seam that goes from the back shoulder, under the right arm to the diagonal seam that goes across the bottom of the front. You then fold the left sleeve and then the seam that travels from the left collar bone, under the left arm and to the back. You then attach the neck band and hem the sleeves and bottom edge. Because the construction is unusual and the pattern pieces are odd looking, I had to sit and stare at the instructions for a while before I figured out what was being asked of me, but the top is actually very simple and quick to make. I added some ultrafine bias stay tape to the sleeve hems to stabilize them so that the hems would not wave, and I added double coverstitching to the front and back diagonal seams for decoration (and to keep the seam allowances in place). to the neck (I trimmed off the extra fabric in that seam to keep the neck from flipping out) and to the top's sleeve and bottom hems.
I like this loosefitting top more than I expected that I would. I wore it to work yesterday (hence the wrinkles in the photos), and it was ridiculously comfortable. I expect that I will make it again; it is really too quick and easy not to.
