|Pattern Description: |
Loose pullover top
xsm, small, med
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I made view C, with short sleeves and straight hem. The instructions are easy to follow. The front neck band goes on nicely. I made the size small, but would have been better with the xs.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that I can close up the front opening as much as I want by overlapping the bands. I did not like the sleeves or the bodice fullness, or the short length.
51" wide 100% cotton swiss dot from JoAnn's
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I tried on the top after attaching the yoke and basting up the shoulders and sides and it was quite boxy and too short. I took the sides in another 1" or more. I cut a 4" wide strip and added it on to the hem. The busy flower pattern hides the seam a bit. So beware if making view C that it is SHORT! Also I turned down the pocket flap. The instructions leave it pointing up (It's supposed to be a mock flap) but it hit my chest awkwardly. Then, I added 2 long vertical darts in the back because the top was still too boxy. So overall, I removed about an additional 5" from the width of the top! Another problem I encountered was that the collar was about 1" too long. Sigh, maybe it's me! So I cut the collar at center back and made a seam to take in the excess. All these seams and darts I added were hidden by the busy flower pattern or I could never have gotten away with it. Last, the sleeves needed to be gathered, not eased as instructed in the pattern. Lots of excess. I don't see this in the pattern photo. Looks like a smooth sleeve cap to me. Oh well.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Actually I do wear this top all the time. It is very lightweight and comfortable, doesn't wrinkle or show dirty spots! BUT I tried it again in a heavier weight 100% cotton and that one got thrown out! Nothing worked. So I will not be making this pattern again. Just got lucky that my errors and modifications worked the first time.
