|This fleece blanket is a gift for my DDIL for her birthday -- I had actually purchased the leopard fleece in the spring of 2012 in the hopes of making the blanket for her birthday last year. That didn't happen as I was too busy sewing wedding garments for DS and this DDIL's wedding.|
The fleece is the full width with the selvedges trimmed off (finished width of 57") and 88" long.
I used faux suede from my stash (leftover from a previous project several years ago) to make the binding using my fave binding technique from Teach Yourself Machine Piecing & Quilting by Debra Wagner. It's called French binding in the book but I'm sure experienced quilters know it by another name. I like how I get nice mitred corners from this binding technique.
I forgot to take a picture of the mitred corner on the blanket (and I've mailed it off already) but I did take a picture of the binding
Here is a mitred corner using this method from another project -- Lighthouse Wall Hanging
This was a project that needed to get done for DDIL's birthday on the 11th -- it qualified for the 2013 Fabric Stash Contest. And as with any fleece, it is something that was taking up significant space on the stash shelves.
A quick and easy stash-busting project.
