|Pattern Description: jacket with front and collar variations|
Pattern Size: multi size 12,14,16,18,20. I am between a 12 and a 14 and have found from trial and error, that my best fit is to cut a 12, but I add about 6 mm to the front and back side seams tapering to 10 mm at the hem from the waist.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? yes (but I didn't follow them that closely - see alterations
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I've always wanted a jacket with a faux fur collar, and view E looked perfect.
A wool blend upholstery remnant I bought on Ebay. It was quite thick and I thought it would work well with fur. I used a light weight wool suiting for the facings and a lightweight silk dupion for the lining. The faux fur is racoon from www.imstuffedfur.com :
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made my usual high round back adjustment, and after fitting, let the front princess seam out a little. I also made it 20mm longer. After reading the other reviews, I also swapped the sleeve for a 2 piece sleeve from another pattern. I was a bit concerned the collar might be a bit oversize, so decided to leave out the under collar, and rely on the fact that the knitted faux fur fabric wouldn't fray. I thought that would allow me to trim down the collar after the jacket was finished if necessary. Unfortunately the undersurface of the collar catches and rolls a bit on the shoulder seams, so I think I'll slip stitch an undercollar on at some point. As my fabric was so thick I used a matching light weight wool suiting for the facings. I also wanted to line the jacket, so modified the facing pattern and cut a lining like you have in a regular lined jacket.
The pattern suggested one button/hole at the neck, but I couldn't see how that could work, so I used 5 sew-on press studs and added a button just for decoration.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I would recommend it and might sew it again with one of the other collar variations. I think with a different fabric, it would be ok to make it as per the instructions
Conclusion: good project and I'm happy with the result
