|Pattern Description: |
Polo shirts, no buttons, very short or 3/4 sleeves
Many sizes; this is X
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes--and this version turned out WAY BETTER than my last one (but pardon the wrinkles please)
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes pretty much, but as before, i'm still not sure on the placket seam allowances, are they enclosed in the topstitching or hanging out
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the style, especially with these fabrics. I think collar stands always look better. I did this earlier with a thicker knit, also for collar & placket, and it turned out lumpy. I thought it was too big, but it really had just stretched out of shape. This one is the same exact size (same pattern pieces even), but fits better (though I wish sleeves were a little bigger)
I must say, I like that it doesn't include buttons.
A light-midweight jersey mostly cotton with a little lycra. This is from EOS. It was a pleasure to work with. Also, cotton twill for collar and placket; it might have been a little on the heavy side, but it worked out well.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
As before, I added an inch to the sleeve length (but they're still too short I think)
I did some changes to the placket fabrication: cut out one double piece instead of 2 pieces, interfaced it (that's important), serged sides & bottom to finish, stay stitched along marked lines & then sewed to the front as directed. when i did the topstitching, i let the serged placket s/a's stick out there, not be enclosed. This makes for smoother placket I think, but you can see a little bit of serging at the very top where it flares open.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will do this again, with the 3/4 sleeves maybe, staying away from heavier knits
Very good pattern if you use the right fabric.
