I made Hat B and Tote F Pattern Sizing:
Medium hat - Still a bit too large Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
More or less Were the instructions easy to follow? I found parts of the pattern difficult to understand. I spent a lot of time trying to figure things out. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The hat brim holds up nicely. I thought it would be floppy but it's not.
I didn't like the instructions for adding the lining. They could have been clearer. I ended up hand sewing the crown lining into the hat.
The bag was easier to make than the hat. I had trouble with the straps so I decided to buy them. I divided the inside pocket by three for sun glasses , cell phone and a pen. (next time I'll increase the length and turn the pen pocket into a key pocket.)
Denim weight material. Lining is a light weight cotton Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The crown was too deep. I shortened the crown when I sewed it to the brim. I sewed more stitching around the brim than the pattern called for to make the brim stiffer. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I might sew the hat again since I already have the pattern and because I can adjust the crown length so the brim doesn't hang too low. I would try the fusible lining instead of the sew- in lining the pattern calls for.
The bag is nice and I might make it again. Conclusion: This was my fist hat and bag. The hat was a challenge for me to sew. I think they both came out ok for not having much sewing experience. I've taken them to the beach and they both worked out great!
