|Pattern Description: |
Three different sized monkey-type toys, either an orangutan or chimpanzee.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, which I was delighted with. I made two, because I loved the first one so much.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes they were, there was one set of instructions for all monkies (technically not monkies) regardless of size . There were some special instructions for working with fake fur which were very much appreciated, as I'd never used it before, but it all made sense. It got quite intricate in places, especially at the armholes, but that's due to the size. The instructions were fine. I would have attempted the smaller size, but given that the armholes would be even smaller, this has kind of put me off a little bit, but I'll certainly try for the bigger size.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked that there were options, in material and size. I chose the medium sized monkey and have made two so far, they work really well. The instructions are clear and they are fun to make, and involve quite a bit of concentration, but are well worth it. I can't wait to see how big the biggest size turns out to be, as the medium sized one is fairly big as it is! The only thing I didn't like, and perhaps it's due to my lack of experience more than anything else, but the armholes were very fiddley.
For the orangutan, I used fake fur and fibre fleece for the face, ears, hands and feet. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151703542036565&set=a.10151703541451565.1073741829.177246251564&type=3&theater (The clickable link buttone won't work for me, so I've just copied and pasted the URL.)
For the chimpanszee I used Fibre fleece for the face etc., and some sort of napped jersey for the body.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made no changes. I don't think I'd make any. In the orangutan, I didn't put finger lines in, but only because I'd overstuffed the hands and my sewing machine was struggling enough coping with the fleece, so I didn't want to push it, and I didn't embroider a nose.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I've sewn it twice already, I love it. Yes, I'd recommend it, it's well worth the effort at the end.
A favourite of mine, I'll be using it plenty more..!
