To get myself back in the sewing room, I've set myself a challenge to make several garments from my most recent issue (2/2013) of Ottobre Woman. I wanted to start at #1 and work through as many as I could before I ran out of steam or the next issue arrived. Here's number 3!
Pattern Description: Sleeveless button-front blouse with yoke and collar with stand.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. I added an extra pocket, which you can't really see on my busy print.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. They were adequate. I confess that I generally sew by looking at the drawings, so I have a bit of trouble with Ottobre directions.
I like to make my collars first. The Ottobre instructions for this collar and stand are exactly the way I make them, except that they don’t have you topstitch the stand before you sew it on the shirt. I like to topstitch while the collar is still flat so I don’t have to drag the entire shirt through the sewing machine–there’s only the neck edge to do after it’s sewn onto the shirt.
