A full length fully lined straight strapless dress with back zipper, back slit. Boning is inserted into the side seams of the bodice. View B has shaped band across the front. Bolero pattern included.
Pattern Sizing: 8-20, I sewed size 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Well, not like the wedding dress but yes. More like the photo on the original pattern envelope. The fabric was similar which is why I chose this pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the simplicity of this. In addition it was very economical on fabric. It was very simple to make, the main issue is getting the sizing of the bodice right. Tight enough to stay up but not too tight. But of course there is always the problem of weight fluctuation!
Fabric Used: This was a fairly cheap cotton I bought in Tahiti when on holiday. It reminded me of the bright dresses the Polynesian dancers wore. It's a bit coarse but OK to wear on a tropical evening.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None other than reduce the lower side seams to a 10.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I have now sewn it in silk as a more formal dress. I will probably not sew this again but I would recommend it to others. I have since made Vogue 2481.This is strapless but has a boned foundation piece which is really comfortable and gives a good shape. If I was to do something like this dress again I would probably incorporate such a piece into the dress along with the lining. Vogue 2481
Conclusion: A simple dress, easy to make.
