tag on right hip--I cut "Alien Invasion" from the selvage of the fabric and appliqued it using a very small zigzag. (I thought I had done an excellent job until I saw the enlarged view in the photo--eek! The things our eyes don't tell us.)
PATTERN 2257 MEN'S PAJAMA PANTS & SHORTS
DESIGNED FOR LIGHT TO MEDIUM WEIGHT WOVEN FABRICS
Suggested Fabrics: Cotton, cotton types, broadcloth, chambray, flannelette
Men's pull-on pajama pants and shorts have fly opening, elastic in casing at waist and drawstring. Fly has optional button closing.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except I combined coordinating stash fabrics from the 'Alien Invasion' line so I would have enough for the project.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. Just be careful on Step 4, paragraph 2, where you are instructed to topstitch. At this point your topstitching will form a small triangle at the bottom of the fly.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The pattern is a no-bells-and-whistles-and-no-pockets-either pattern which provides a reliable product you expect from Kwik Sew.
100% midweight quilting cotton from the 'Alien Invasion' line of Moda fabrics designed by Amy Bradley (I know this because it's printed in the selvage). I would have liked more of the 'Alien Capsules' fabric but I had to extend with the 'Planetary Stripes' from the same line to have enough fabric for this project. (NOTE: I have found these fabrics also called 'Space Capsules' and 'Planet Stripes' when I fact checked the fabric names.)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added a strip of fabric at the middle of the lower leg and topstitched it.
I turned the aliens sideways for the sewn-on cuff at the bottom of the PJ pants.
I used a shoe string for the drawstring.
I used sports elastic and did not sew a casing for elastic.
I appliqued 'Alien Invasion' to the right rear hip using the text from the selvage.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
yes and yes
This is a great pattern for men's PJ bottoms or shorts.
This is my 14th entry in Fabric Stash Contest 2013.
