Loose fitting top with neckline variations and front and back waist pleats.
My bust currently measures 35", which puts me between a 12 and 14 in Vogue. I made the 10 as this was described as loosefitting and Vogue are usually over generous with their ease!
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, both the line drawings and pattern photo are pretty true to what my top looks like.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. I only glanced at the instructions for the purposes of this review and they were pretty easy to follow. An experienced sewer probably won't need them and for a beginner they are pretty good.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the shape of this top. I don't usually wear fitted styles, put I could not resist the lure of the peplum style any longer! And this top gives a peplumish shape which I think may last longer than the trend itself.
I also figure if I gain a few pounds then letting out the pleats a bit will be pretty easy!
I am not a big fan of long magyar sleeves so I probably won't make the long sleeve version. And I also don't really like wearing high necklines so I will stick with the button front style if I make this again.
A vintage animal print linen from the stash. I suspect that this is probably a home dec fabric as it is a little scratchy, so I used a cotton lawn for the facings to reduce the itch factor.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
No major alterations or changes except for using the sleeve length from View A to make View C.
When I fitted the top I realised that the 10 is probably a little too snug for me, so I sewed the underarm seam with a 1cm s.a instead of 1.5cm.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and yes! I already have another great print in the stash that is earmarked for this pattern, and what I really want to do is make one in leather!
Don't be fooled by the less than inspiring pattern envelope, this is a great pattern. It goes together easily, it has some good neckline and sleeve length variations and would look great in plains and prints. A great project for a learner, its an on trend style that has potential to become a classic.
