jacket with collar variations and dress with pleated skirt. Pattern Sizing: 6 - 22, I made a size 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes the instructions were very good.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? the collar and facing went together very well. I like the princess seams and in seam welt pockets
Fabric Used: stretch denim
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No changes for design although I did try a new technique for a bias cut half lining across the back that I saw in Threads magazine.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? No I won't sew it again. I had such high hopes for this pattern. I wanted a casual unlined denim jacket and had the perfect fabric. What I didn't like about this pattern is that despite the princess seams it is very shapeless. The shoulders were way too broad on me (using my usual size 12). Also the slight double breasted look of the jacket front appealed to me on the pattern photo but in real life it looked odd. With the collar it just looked a bit too "people's army" instead of stylish casual jacket.
Conclusion: I am still pursuing a pattern for a cute unlined denim jacket with a bit of style, in the end I will probably make a lined blazer to fill this spot in my wardrobe.
Couple of blog posts on this one. Blog post the first, details on the jacket construction including how to make the bias cut half lining. Blog post the second, final photos including a happy ending for this jacket.
