|Another entry for the 2013 UFO Contest. I think this project has been cut out for at least 10 years and was supposed to be a gift. The waterproof fabric can be a travel water or food bowl for dogs- perfect for when out hiking. Yeah, it's a little big for our housecats; this will still be a gift for someone who has a dog. |
In progress pic
This travel pet water/food bowl made of waterproof fabrics is easily portable for hiking and other outdoor activities. I created this pattern over 10 years ago by looking at other similar products available at retail stores.
One size fits most. A little big for our housecats, but it's made for dogs that go hiking with their people.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't write down any instructions, just a couple of measurements, so it took me a bit to remember which angle to sew the vertical outer seams at.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It's durable, lightweight, portable, and dries quickly.
Outer blue: approximately a 400 to 450 denier coated waterproof Packcloth (similar to nylon Cordura but the outer fabric is smoother).
Inner red: coated waterproof nylon taffeta (think the weight of fabric that tent flys are often made from).
Yellow binding: nylon grossgrain ribbon from stash. This type of grossgrain is stiff, very durable, is commonly used to bind seams on backpacks, and may usually be found at outdoor fabric stores. The ends should be seared lightly with a match after cutting to prevent fraying. Do the searing outside to prevent breathing in the fumes.
Used polyester thread and a Microtex 80/12 needle.
Am glad to have completed another UFO. This contest was a great motivator.
