|Pattern Description: Sleveless pleat front dress|
Pattern Sizing: 4-16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, but the bodice was "bunchier" than I expected.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very! Much easier than the other Salme pattern I've tried (the playsuit).
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The directions were very clear and easy to follow. The pleating and facing make the bodice look very very nice, but I did not like how bunchy the bodice ended up being.
Fabric Used: Cotton shirting
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The bodice ended up being not very flattering on me because there was a lot of extra fabric bunching between the dart and the elastic waistband. However, the armholes and bust fit perfectly. So I tore out the side seams from the dart to the waistband, closed them up an extra inch, and restitched. That helped a lot. I cut the seam allowance of the skirt as stated (2") but it ended up being a little long for my liking, even though I'm 5'11". So I chopped off 3" from the bottom of the skirt and did a cute rolled hem with my serger instead of folding the hem up.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This was actually my muslin or practice one, before I use my expensive silk fabric. But it ended up being so cute that I will definitely wear it. Next time I sew it, I'm going to grade the bodice down at least a size or maybe two from the dart down.
Conclusion: It ended up being pretty cute and easy to throw on for an effortless dressed up look. I think a solid color would show the pleats off much more nicely than my busy fabric does - it hides the pleats somewhat, and they are the cutest thing about this dress. I am not experienced in altering patterns or making any changes whatsoever, so I kind of panicked when the bodice didn't flatter. But luckily I fixed it without a problem!!
