|Pattern Description: Burda: This is a sophisticated jacket with cuffed sleeves and stylized front seams. It has a hidden snap front closure and is fully lined. This is the perfect summer jacket, it is stylish and easy to wear. You could make the sleeves in a contrasting color to make a statement, or lengthen the hemline to make a coat.|
Pattern Sizing: Burda sizing 72, 76, 80, 84, 88 = 36, 38, 40, 42, 44
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. I sewed a size 38, rather than my usual size 40, because the jacket is roomy.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the curved lines, gathered and cuffed sleeves, and short, boxy look. Interesting architecture in what is really a very basic jacket.
The lines of the jacket are a great palette for topstitiching, which I really enjoy. I like the finish it gives to a piece, particularly on a fabric like linen, that has some weight and texture.
The pattern pieces fit together really well, which is important given the awesome curves on the sleeves and body. I didn't have any problems pinning and sewing the curves.
No dislikes - this pattern is a winner.
Fabric Used: I used a 55/45 linen/rayon blend from JoAnn's (Sew Classics Linen-Linen Look Solids). This is my favorite linen blend - it launders beautifully, is very soft, has a nice slub, is available in interesting colors, and does not hold hard wrinkles. I've had good results with this fabric. No - I did not get paid for that! But it can be hard to find a good linen blend, in a store or online, so thought I'd mention it.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The original pattern front closes well past the center point, over to the left side, with hidden sewn-on snaps. However - I redrafted the front pieces to overlap an inch at the center front, and did not use the snaps at all.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?Yes, and yes!
Conclusion: I'm really happy with this little jacket - it will be great with shorts, jeans, pants, and capris. More pics and info on my blog!
