Pattern Description: Dress has ruffles, semi-fitted, lined bodice and inset, raised waist and back zipper. A: self-lined sleeves. A and B: semi-fitted skirt and stitched hem. C: lined sleeves and narrow hem.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Yes, the sleeveless version.
Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes - this dress was a joy to sew and watch come together.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I loved the under bust gathers that are easy to sew and fit. Such a nice change from darts! The empire waist is slimming and flattering on nearly any shape.
Fabric Used:Seersucker with lycra. I've worn to death a Vineyard Vines peplum halter from this same type of comfortable summer fabric and have had my eye out for something similar in fabric stores. I finally came across it at Fashion Fabrics Club. At 50" wide and $5.50 a yard it's an absolute steal. It's been in my stash for a while and as soon as this pattern was released I knew it would be a great match.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:The bodice has way too much ease. I could have easily gone down a size. This made it necessary to take a 1 1/2" seam allowance in the center back when installing the zipper. I also added a lining to the skirt to keep lap wrinkles at bay. This was hand stitched to the bodice lining, since the bodice and lining pieces are gathered together as one for the under bust shaping. Adding a skirt lining also allowed me to sandwich the zipper between the fabric and lining.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I would love to sew this dress again but since it's such a distinctive style I probably will not.
Conclusion: This pattern is a great example of balance in design elements. The simple clean lines of the dress are juxtaposed against the face framing ruffle and they play well off each other, neither overpowering the other. In fact, it's the first ruffle in my closet in many decades and I think it may become one of my favorite summer dresses. Bodice close up
