|Pattern Description: This is a pattern for a Man's Vest in 3 different styles. It is a 'Learn to Sew' pattern and I do recomend it for anyone because of its simple lines.|
Pattern pieces traced/drawn/altered onto plastic coated butcher paper for strength and so that they can be ironed onto the fabric then peeled off and re used if needed, instead of pinned:cut pattern lft. to rt. row 1:Back, front, moon pocket lining, shoulder pad, moon pocket facing. row 2:Large patch pocket lip, bellows pocket flap, zippered pocket top, shoulder tab (which I fogot to put on) row 3: large patch pocket, bellows pocket, zipper pocket, small patch pocket.
Pattern Sizing: Size AA 34-42
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? No, due to the changes I made.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I was looking for a pattern with simple lines and a 'V' neck to alter into a sporting vest. I saw a vintage one with a half moon pocket and couldn't get it out of my mind. This pattern offered the 'V' neck and the scoop hem that I wanted.
Fabric Used: Cotton denim for the shell and cotton flannel for the lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made lots of changes. I used the v neck pattern and redrew the hem.
I also had to redraw the left front for the half-moon pocket. frontI wanted bellows pockets on the front instead of the patch pocket on the pattern. I put them on oversized patch pockets to make more pocket space. I moved the patch pocket to the left breast and added a zippered pocket to the lining.lining pocket I added a game pocket to the back with pleats on the lower part and brought it to a point between the shoulder blades to make more room to carry stuff.back
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will sew it again and change the front pockets to make one for me. I'm thinking plaid wool with leather shoulder pad, pocket flaps and shoulder tabs.
Conclusion: I did lots of sewing and picking and re-sewing to get the look that I wanted. All of the seams are double stiched and the hardwear is medal. My nephew is modeling it but he is 2 sizes smaller than my husband who I made it for. Back Patch pockets
