|Pattern Description: |
A very large, bowling ball bag shaped tote or travel bag, 18w X 12h X 6d. With long handles, a flat zippered top and a zippered outside pocket.
Very big! Too big to fit under an airplane seat. Perfect weekend getaway size.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Not size-wise it didn't! I should have paid more attention to the pattern envelope back which stated the dimensions! But other than that it looked exactly like the picture. I moved the zippered outside pocket up, made it smaller, put it on both sides and left off the zipper. More like a pretty cell phone pocket. I added metal rings to the strap, cause I like the look better.
Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes. This is an easy pattern for someone who has made a bag or two. The top zipper is very easy. The lining is easy and beautiful. Adjustments to the bag are easy. The only tricky part to the bag is the 4 corners of the zippered top piece. Where those corners meet the side-bottom and front piece is fussy and hard to reach. I ended up sewing them in by hand cause my machine just couldn't get in there at the right angle. But that said, it wasn't a massive big deal and it worked out just fine doing it by hand.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the look of this bag and I like the style. But it is too large to need more than one. If I were to make one as a present, I would try to figure out an easier way to do the for top corners. I'd like to do this style but in a purse size but I don't like this pattern enough to spend the time downsizing it. I'll find another pattern for that.
Fabric Used: Leftover upholstery fabric of unknown origin, I loved the color! The little bit of quilting cotton is from the Hoffman Challenge collection of 2009, I finally for a place to use it! The handles are lined in 1.25 inch webbing. The walls are timtex and batting. The lining is slinky junk that ended up being beautiful! Go figure!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Probably not, but I love this one and it will last along time.
A beautiful week-end bag from a okay pattern.
