|Pattern Description: Women's semi-fitted dress with waist (front) fisheye darts and neck (front and back) darts. Dress is knee-length and has an option to add ribbon ties around waist.|
Pattern Sizing: 6-16. I sewed the 12.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Sort of. My fabric was heavier and crisper than what they used, so the front chest area drapes differently.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really liked the look of the style and was excited to make this up. It is quick and easy to make (there is a side zipper which I've done before but which might give a newbie pause for a few minutes). There are a few steps (like making the waistline darts/tucks) that are a bit harder without tracing paper and a tracing wheel, or some really good way of marking them, but if you have time and patience, it really isn't too bad.
Fabric Used: A red tag clearance quilting cotton (heavier than some) from Jo-Ann. I don't remember how much the fabric was, since I've had it forever in stash, but it probably was at most $6. I also used an orange ribbon from stash and a zipper from stash (although come to think of it, I bet I was saving the zipper for something else. Hmm).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None. The next time I make this, I will drop the waistline tucks by 2" or so down. My low waist means that this rides up a lot and is a bit uncomfortable. This was a wearable muslin, though, and as such it was quite successful.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would, and yes, I would recommend it to others. If you go into it thinking that it will be a quick dress that may or may not fit and flatter perfectly on first go, I think you'll be happy. It's not designed as a well-fitting, perfect couture dress, I don't think; it's more a quick and easy make that gives a nice end result.
Conclusion: This has some nice techniques for a beginner to try, and comes together quickly for a pleasant summer dress. Give it a try!
