Child's dress and pinafore. OOP for about 40 years. My mom sewed this for me as a baby. I am sewing this as a gift for my friend who had a baby in April.
I sewed the pinafore Pattern Sizing:
Child's size 2
Were the instructions easy to follow?
They weren't present in the pattern envelope. Since I've sewn this already once before with a dress, it wasn't particularly hard. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The ruffled sleeves are really cute.
Quilting cotton. I've been eyeing this Anna Sui dress from Spring RTW 2013 and was actually trying to find similar fabric. The fabric store only had this red fabric though, which was a bit too loud for me. Perfect for a little girl though!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added a bow with contrasting red and white with red polka-dots. The red part of the bow gets a little lost against the dress in the photo. I took extra care in sewing it on so the baby won't accidentally pull it off.
I added an additional ruffle at the bottom to match the sleeves. This dress was the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with my new gathering foot for my Brother 1500 machine. Well worth it, I hate gathering using running stitches... I've spent one too many hours doing that for various 18th century dresses.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I seem to sew this every time for my friend's girl babies, it's just so cute! Stats
Vintage reclaimed buttons: 1€
Sewing time: 4 hours. There's a lot of work in all those sleeve ruffles since they are even lined. The entire bodice is also lined.
