|Pattern Description: Child's costume, size XS or S-M. Cat, bear, lion, and gorilla. My daughter chose the cat.|
Pattern Sizing: Children's
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, but I don't feel the ears came out quite as large as the ones on the drawing.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, pretty easy, but there were a few holes. For example, instructions for the ears of the cat were non-existent, so I followed the bear ear instructions. No biggie.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This was another really easy kid's costume pattern. I would venture to say it would even be great for a beginner. Another nice thing- there are 2 separate pattern sheets in the envelope, one for XS, one for S-L. I will certainly hold on to this one and use it for her little sister.
Fabric Used: Blizzard fleece-NOT COOL by the way, if I had my heart set on using a zip. Good thing I didn't. I did not even attempt to install a zipper as instructed, instead, I opted for sew-on Velcro that was leftover from another project. You see, it would have been impossible to sew a zipper onto 4 layers of fleece plus a layer of quilt batting. I placed 1" strips of Velcro 2 1/4" apart. I feel it worked out well in the end.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The legs and arms had to be shortened. I also chose to insert elastic on the mittens in the same manner as the sleeves, legs, and spats. It just made sense to me. I also used Velcro on the hat in the same manner as I did for the body instead of snaps.
Would you sew it again? Yes, and I most likely will. Next time I will opt for costume fur OR if I use fleece again, I will cut the front and belly piece on the fold and insert the zip up the back. Ugh, why can't I think of these things ahead of time!?
Would you recommend it to others? Yes, with modifications.
Conclusion: Whew! This review took almost as long to type as it took to make it! It feel it came out cute though, and more importantly, the owner loves it.
