|Pattern Description: Peasant dresses in two lengths with short puffed sleeves, optional sleeve ruffle, midriff band and sash. Apron|
Pattern Sizing: (1/2-3) (4-8)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Other than the modifications I made, yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? I was in a bit of a rush, so I only glanced at them to see if there was anything strange, which there wasn't. I thought they were reasonable and complete.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I actually had intended to make this dress with Simplicity 2377, which had been my go to peasant dress. I had loaned out the pattern and my local Hancock didn't have it in stock, so I grabbed this one as a sub. I'm really glad I did! The midriff band really makes this a shapely dress, perfect for a "fancy" dress up dress. The pattern was quick to put together and true to size. No dislikes.
Fabric Used: Poly satin back shantung and nylon chantilly lace from Joann.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I lengthened the dress several inches. Myra specifically requested her "gown" must touch the floor when she wears high heel shoes! The extra length also gives us a bit of growing room. I underlined the lace of the bodice, skirt and upper sleeves with the shantung, used the lace alone along the borders for the ruffles and the shantung alone for the sash and midriff panel. I added some hotfix crystals to the midriff band. I never use the "elastic guide" provided by Simplicity. Experience has taught me that it is always too long. I measure Myra instead.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I am so glad I discovered this cute little pattern! I'll definitely use it again, both for daywear as well as more dress up dresses. It's an easy sew and very versatile. I admit, I was turned off by the crazy cotton printed versions on the envelope, as that is not my style, but this pattern has great bones.
Conclusion: I'd never had picked up this pattern if Hancock hadn't been out of 2377, but I am so glad in the end that I did. It's cute, shapely, easy to sew and Myra loves it. All around win!
