This retro-flavored dress has a zippered back and a strappy princess seamed bodice that sits slightly above the waist with an optional band or split bias cuff finishing the square neckline. Softly pleated full skirt. Pattern Sizing:
4-20. I made a size 8 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes! Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy pattern, and I hardly needed the instructions. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the retro bias cuff and the pleated skirt. The only thing I hate about all straps is the placement. It's difficult getting the angle just right so that the straps lay flat. Fabric Used:
Taupe chambray from fabric.com Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I lined the entire dress. I was only going to do the bodice, but the chambray was so light that the skirt looked flat. I shortened the bodice by 1 inch (which has become my usual alteration). I also altered the straps. I set them wider, which was more flattering on me, and I attached them in the back with buttons instead of sewing them into the seam. I describe this better on my blog Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I did! I wore this dress to work and my coworker asked me to make one for her! Even easier the second time around. Conclusion:
I loved the chambray and it looked great on the bias cuff because you could really see the character of the grain. The princess seams are so flattering and I love the pleated skirt rather than a gathered one. I definitely recommend this pattern.
