|Pattern Description: Shirt with front gathers under the bust line, stand collar, sleeves variations. This pattern is discontinued, so it looks like I'm late to the party, but I'm glad I've got to make it.|
Pattern Sizing: My envelope had the sizes between 12-20, and they cover the sizes combination that I would need. But after measuring the pattern pieces, I cut one size smaller everywhere, and the fit was excellent. I cut 12 at shoulders and bust and 16 at waist and hem (instead of 14 and 18, respectively)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes for the most part, except that I made it sleeveless, and I used the collar from another pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the shape and that it comes with separate pieces for different cup sizes.
I didn't like the collar shape, I think it's too wide, so I used the collar from another McCalls pattern that I used recently (M6696)
Fabric Used: A very delicate silk-cotton batiste. Frankly, I didn't notice that those circles formed columns and rows until I laid the fabric on the table to cut the pattern.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The fact that I sewed another McCalls patterns recently (the shirt dress linked above) helped tremendously with getting the right fit. I could compare some pieces and see where I needed to adjust the pattern. So, besides cutting one size smaller than I would need based on my measurements, I raised the underarm by 1.5 cm, I added 1.5 cm to the shirt length at the hem, shaved 0.5 cm from the underbust gathers, used the collar pieces from the M9969 shirt dress.
Still, the next time I would need to make one more adjustment: shorten the shoulder line. I noticed it was too long when I measured the pattern, but on the mulsin it looked just right, and I was fooled by that.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes.
Conclusion: I am happy I could get such a good fit (because I think it's good ), I am very happy with how the collar turned out as it's my second collar with a stand, and I am less happy with the print alignment at the front where the right and left parts meet at the center, but I hope that the print is crazy enough to make it less noticeable.
Here is another picture of the front, and here is the back.
