|Pattern Description: |
There are adult and child sizes in separate envelopes. mine was Kids size 3-8
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the pattern. My only dislike was the length. I made this for my DGD's 4th birthday, and since she lives far away, I did not have her to try it on until it was finished. When I went for a visit, I gave it too her and low and behold it was WAY too long for her to walk in without tripping.
The story has a happy ending though b/c I was able to take a day out of my vacation, and use my daughters machine to make alterations.
An awesome teal/aqua sequined cocktail dress from the thrift store, $6.
Scraps of shiny fabric from my stash: Irridescent sheer for the ruffles and fins, and irridescent satin for the bodice, free.
A scrap of flesh colored poly/nylon knit for the midriff.
Notions from my stash.
Pattern from the thrift store. 99 cents
Total cost: $6.99
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
#1 As I said above this was way too long for my granddaughter to wear safely. Once she had tried it on, I took the whole thing apart at the waist, and shortened the skirt portion by about 8 inches(I know, I had a hard time believing that too, so I dit it in two stages just in case, but it really was that much too long). Now she can wear it to play and I know she will get a lot of use out of it. Only problem with this is, her mom will have to hide it so she doesn't try to wear it to preschool every day.....
#2 Instead of a zipper I did a velcro closure. I think this will be easier for GDG to get in and out of.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I absolutely LOVE the pattern. I highly recommend it, I think the way they conceived the mermaid tail is BRILLIANT, just not so practical to have it dragging on the floor (lovely, but not practical). I am keeping the pattern although I am not sure I will have the opportunity to use it again as my next two grandchildren are boys.
If you want to be able to walk, make it shorter.
